Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about year tracking, countdowns, timezones, and how the site works.

Is TrackYourYear free?

Yes. Every page, calculator, and countdown is free to use. There are no ads on any page.

How do you calculate year progress?

Year progress is the percentage of the calendar year that has elapsed in UTC by default. We compute days passed (1-indexed), days remaining, ISO week number, and per-quarter / per-month progress.

Why does the year percentage differ from other sites?

We use UTC by default for SSR-stable values. Other sites may use the viewer's local timezone. Both are correct; the difference can be a few hours around midnight UTC.

How do I add an event to my calendar?

Every event detail page has a 'Download .ics' link. Open the file in Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, or Outlook. Major events also have an 'Add to Calendar' button that subscribes to a live feed.

Can I embed a countdown on my own site?

Yes. Open any countdown URL (e.g. /countdown/christmas) and copy the embed snippet from the share section.

Do you support holidays for non-US countries?

Yes. Visit /holidays to pick a country. We support every country in the date-holidays library.

Are countdowns shown in my timezone or UTC?

Countdowns tick in your local timezone after page load. The day count itself is computed in UTC for consistency across viewers.

How are working days calculated?

Working days are Monday through Friday by default. We do not subtract country-specific public holidays from the working-days total. Use the holidays page to see country-specific observances.

Where do you get holiday data from?

Holidays come from the open-source date-holidays library, which sources official government calendars. Each country page links to its source.

How do I report an error or suggest a feature?
